Crosses

The cross is Christianity's most important symbol.

The cross was not a symbol of early Christians, who preferred the anchor, fish or Chi Rho. It was only over time that Christians began to think through the implications and meanings of the crucifixion, and to glorify the cross.

The cross can take varying forms - for example the plain cross or the crucifix (with the figure of Jesus). The latter is commonly used in Roman Catholic churches.
